Community Development Sessions - “Creating Housing Solutions"

COME ALONG to our Community Development sessions; join together & work towards housing outcomes.


This community development series follows on from the “Creating Housing Solutions.” Workshops held in April & May 2023.


The aim of these gatherings is for people to come together, identify housing needs, what assets and tools are available within the group and come up with ideas and solutions to begin the journey of creating your own housing solution and progress these outcomes.


You’re welcome to join these gatherings, even if you didn’t attend the workshops.


Entry is by donation, no matter how large or small. Donations over $10 are tax deductible.

Creative Housing Solutions - What you need to know

This workshop provides information on different housing models. What is a manor house, a pavilion home, dual occupancy, multiple occupancy? What can be done in the region to help support entering into creative housing models and what are the boundaries?

 This workshop will focus on the nuts and bolts of planning and what you need to know if you are considering going into property with other people.

We have speakers from the planning department of Byron Shire Council who will do a presentation and offer some advice with a Q&A session to help you understand what can and can’t be done and what to look for in a property.

Preparing financially to access secure housing opportunities

(Lunch & childcare provided for registered ticketholders)

Our first workshop in the series will be about financial preparedness, with information about the SHARED EQUITY government scheme for single parents, first home buyers, key workers and single people over 50.

We will have speakers from the Bendigo Bank to answer your questions about the Shared Equity scheme and other initiatives such as the Federal Government’s REGIONAL FIRST HOME BUYERS GUARANTEE to help eligible Regional First Home Buyers to enter the housing market sooner and purchase a home in regional areas with as little as a 5% deposit genuine savings.

There is also the FAMILY HOME GUARANTEE Initiative which provides eligible single parents with dependents the opportunity to build a new home or purchase an existing home with a deposit of 2%, subject to the individual’s ability to service a home loan.

There will also be a mortgage broker with 25 years experience getting people into homes to learn about how to get market ready to buy a home.

We are inviting speakers to share information about upcoming Eco Village opportunities as well as alternative housing models, including co-housing and expanded dwellings.

Workshops are free for WVC members thanks to support from NSW Government.
